Something New is an outlet to recommend all types of art and media, and to share how they make one consumer (me) feel, in an effort to broaden your exposure to art, to broaden your consumption of media, and to broaden the empathy with which we see and experience other’s art.

“No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man.” - Heraclitus …and Wong Kar Wai

I am a writer in Portland, OR who wants to build connections to and through art in all directions. When you subscribe, you will have access to my individual journey of consumption, and you will be able to better direct your own.

I use the word consumption very carefully: we sit down for a movie, say, and we can see and hear and feel things very deeply. We take those feelings in, through all of our senses, and we can digest them, ruminate with them, and find nutrition and delight.

Subscribers will receive posts weekly-ish. I write reviews of movies, music, books, and television, both new releases and older finds. I also write more broadly about the state of various cultural industries, about our methods of consumption, and about other nourishing objects that I find.

“There are no "old" movies really - only movies you have already seen and ones you haven't.” - Peter Bogdanovich
